Individual Therapy
Here you meet with Dr. Sheila one-on-one. As the
patient, you decide what to talk about in each session. Dr. Sheila’s role is to
listen deeply to you, and to offer insight and guidance that will help you
uncover and heal the unconscious issues that are driving your behavior.
You can
work through any issue in individual therapy: it’s the type of therapy chosen
most commonly by patients. However, to accelerate your healing process, you can
choose to add group therapy to your treatment plan.
Group Therapy
As the
name implies, you meet with Dr. Sheila as part of a group, typically between six
and 10 people. When you’re struggling with relationships, group therapy offers a
social context for you to replicate the relationships you have in your everyday
life. You become aware of your behavior and thought patterns so that you can
begin to heal the relationship issues that are causing distress.
You have a
chance to talk about your issues to the group. Other group members offer
support, insights and reflection, so that you don’t feel so alone with your
problems. Dr. Sheila’s role is to guide the process and to make sure that you
get the therapeutic help you need.
The group
experience can be a powerful compliment to the intensely focused work of
individual therapy. Dr. Sheila is a certified group psychotherapist.
“Using
both group and individual therapy as a form of treatment accelerates a person’s
healing and growth. While individual therapy offers in-depth understanding into
a person’s psyche, group therapy offers a corrective healing experience that
replicates one’s family and relationship dynamics. This combination is
outstanding and extremely effective.” Dr. Sheila
For your
protection, all participants commit to keeping all information confidential.
If you
feel isolated, depressed, shy or troubled, joining a group can be an excellent
solution. You can find a complete list of Dr. Sheila’s
current groups here.
Adjunct Couple And Family
Therapy
This is a
form of treatment where other people are invited into your individual session.
This happens only with your permission. The purpose is to enhance your
therapeutic experience and offer additional opportunities to heal.
You may
need to communicate something to a spouse, a family member, a roommate, friend
or colleague, but the thought of doing it on your own throws you into a state of
total terror, panic or paralysis. When you invite that person into your session,
Dr. Sheila can facilitate the communication, and make sure that everyone is
heard and understood.
Or there
may be issues where other family members can throw light on your situation. In
this case, it’s wise to invite them to participate so that you can heal more
quickly.
Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy is a form of treatment that is effective in healing certain
behavior patterns. It is often used to help patients stop smoking, manage their
weight or learn to relax. Where appropriate, Dr. Sheila will recommend
hypnotherapy as an adjunct to individual therapy.
Dr. Sheila
is one of the few clinicians in the United States to train in a hypnotherapy
technique for smoking cessation, that reports a 95% success rate in a single
session.
Coaching
Coaching
differs from therapy in that it’s focused not on your emotional issues, but on
moving forward and achieving results in your life.
At those
times in the therapeutic process when you feel you’re ready and willing to move
forward in your life, Dr. Sheila uses her coaching skills to help you set goals,
make action plans, and brainstorm ideas. She also makes strong requests
regarding concrete action steps. You are accountable to Dr. Sheila for taking
the steps you agree to take. In this way, you consistently reach your
objectives.
