Have you ever wondered why you do what you do, think what you think and feel what you feel? Do you question why life hasn’t been working out for you the way you hoped? Are you struggling to heal old wounds or make changes that stick? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you are not alone. Life can be hard and disappointing, but there is a way to make things better and I’d like to help. I’m Dr. Sheila Forman, a clinical psychologist (and former practicing attorney) and I help people get answers to those questions and more by using Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

You may be asking what is Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and CBT? Allow me to explain by giving you an example. Let’s say you have been feeling anxious lately. You can’t sleep. You are worried about your future. You are afraid things will get even worse than they already are.  (If this sounds familiar, I’m sorry, but keep reading.) Here’s how I could help using Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and CBT.

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy explores the factors in your life that may have contributed to your anxiety. Maybe you had a parent-figure who was anxious or one who was unreliable. Factors like these can lead a person to develop anxiety early on in life and then take that feeling into adulthood. With Psychodynamic Psychotherapy we unearth those factors and heal them. Sure, we can’t go back in time and rewrite history, but we certainly shift how history affects you today.

Identifying and healing those underlying issues can take some time, so while we are doing that work, we would also be dealing with the here-and-now using CBT. CBT works with your thoughts (cognitions) and your actions (behaviors) to reduce symptoms and help you cope better with what ails you. Using CBT, I will give you tools and techniques that you can use right now to manage the symptoms of your anxiety.

We would do this work in weekly 45-minute therapy sessions via ZOOM.

Please know that I am a private-pay practitioner which means I do not accept insurance. My clients pay me directly for my services at the time they are rendered. For people who would like to work with me but cannot afford my individual session fee, I offer group therapy.

So, if you live anywhere in California and would like to learn more about how I might be able to help you, please email me for a free initial consultation. During the consultation we would get to know each other, figure out what kind of help you could use and then together we would decide if I am the right person to help you. If I am, great! If not, I’ll do my best to point you in the direction of someone who might be a better fit.

"My mission is to end emotional pain and help people find happiness and peace of mind. It would be my pleasure to help you do that too."
